What is Itil?

The question of 'What is ITIL?' is a topic of curiosity for many researching information technology. ITIL is an approach that offers guidance to facilitate the growth and development of both organizations and individuals. The fundamental goal of ITIL is to provide predictable services and to increase efficiency with the services offered. This approach fundamentally involves aligning the applications and expenditures within the IT department to suit business objectives and supporting change. ITIL is used in the evolving process of service technologies becoming more advanced day by day.

It's possible to say that ITIL is an Information Technology Infrastructure Library. In this context, it is seen as a framework that provides applications, planning, and management of information technologies throughout its life cycle. The approach fundamentally focuses on service management in information technology and thus approaches problems with this perspective. In addition to providing IT services, it also lightens the workload of the department. Additionally, it creates suitable conditions for audits. ITIL has certain core components which are outlined as follows:

  • The ITIL approach adopts the most suitable IT service model, taking into account the needs of the organization. With the preference of the most appropriate strategy, all processes, including updates, are carried out step by step.

  • Processes necessary for the optimal operation of the organization are designed and implemented, and continuous assessments are made.

  • Following these processes, risk management analysis is conducted to identify factors with potential and strategies are developed to mitigate them.

  • Daily functions are monitored and precautions are taken in case of disruptions. A new operational plan is developed according to the situation.

  • An analysis of the entire process, including problems, is conducted, and various recommendations are offered as needed.

Itil Hedefleri Nelerdir?

ITIL, as an Information Technology Infrastructure Library, helps various organizations to achieve a better position by supporting their productivity. In addition, this system, which aids in making the relationship with customers more consistent and reliable, has specific goals and objectives. Among ITIL's objectives are to increase service quality while reducing service costs, to disseminate experiences by bringing together service management practices, and to efficiently use resources, which are key factors. Other fundamental objectives include enhancing accessibility, ensuring service security, adjusting capacity, increasing scalability, and emphasizing priority issues.

The primary goals of ITIL include ensuring that the tasks performed by information technologies add value to the organization. This encompasses enhancing the quality of services provided, achieving gradual cost reductions, improving activities, and increasing flexibility and applicability. Reducing risks in IT services is also a prominent aspect of these goals. This approach is based on supporting the most advantageous conditions for the organization and ensuring continuous improvement. The characteristics that enable organizations to gain benefits, along with the system's growing popularity, are key to ITIL's success. Practices aimed at sustaining the achievements of organizations contribute to ITIL’s prominence. Additionally, considering an organization's mission during the service delivery stage and aiming to strengthen relationships with customers are among the factors ensuring ongoing success. Furthermore, adopting a policy to minimize costs and expenses allows the development of a method that ensures the most efficient use of resources provided by information technology.

Itil Development Processes

The question 'What does ITIL mean?' is of interest to those involved in this field. ITIL was established by the Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA) with the aim of addressing the low quality issue in IT services. By developing a framework, known as the Government Information Technology Infrastructure Management, it aimed to solve this problem. Initially developed for the public sector, these programs were also adopted in the private sector and became known as ITIL V1. This work continued into the 2000s, leading to the development of ITIL V2. During this period, a library consisting of 8 separate publications was created, with the most influential books being 'Service Delivery' and 'Service Support', primarily due to their fundamental support and presentation content. In these times, ITIL became the standard and most common IT service management tool in IT applications.

As technology advanced, ITIL continued to evolve. ITIL V3, also known as the ITIL Refresh Project, continued to develop policies to meet the needs of its users following the publication of the ITIL glossary. It then transitioned to a service structure that would further contribute to IT-business alignment. The Refresh Project, V3, encompassed 26 processes and was released under the title 'Refresh Project' in 5 volumes. However, a few years later, a revision was made to ITIL V3 to correct certain errors. This revision resolved inconsistencies within V3, offering an updated service. The service catalogue, consisting of 5 volumes named 'ITIL Service Strategy', 'Service Transition', 'Service Improvement', 'Service Design', and 'Service Operation', laid the foundation for the best ITIL practices worldwide. Lastly, the most recent version, ITIL V4, was released in 2019. Particularly focusing on collaborative work, ITIL V4 serves as a guide in this respect and has become quite popular in Turkey. V4, with its holistic approach to service management, also brings a more innovative and extensive perspective to the IT environment.

What Can Be Done with Itil Applications?

Individuals and businesses using ITIL applications have clear answers to the question 'What is the purpose of ITIL?'. The things that those implementing the approach can do are generally as follows:

  • Gaining clearer insight into customers' requests, making it easier to provide services that meet their needs. This can result in the establishment of long-term relationships.

  • Improving information technologies and placing greater importance on user experiences allows for the ability to foresee problems related to the service and their solutions.

  • Potential situations that could sabotage the provided service are eliminated, ensuring stable service delivery. This also improves the risk management process.

  • Managing resources and productivity can be achieved by making cost-effective calculations.

  • The approach enables the continuation of business growth and offers a more advantageous position in competitive environments.

What are the advantages of having Itil Certificate?

ITIL, used as a service management methodology, is an Information Technology Infrastructure Library. The ITIL certification offers numerous advantages for those who want to advance their career in this field.

  • ITIL is increasingly becoming mandatory in many countries, including the United States, both in the public and private sectors. It is also becoming a requirement in Turkey in recent years. Therefore, having this certification increases job opportunities.

  • Unlike other certification programs, this certificate has a longer shelf life, providing an advantage as the current program does not become outdated quickly.

  • The validity of the ITIL certificate does not require frequent renewal. Unlike other programs, which typically need renewal every three years, this is not necessary for ITIL certification.

  • It is often observed that individuals who complete the training in a quality manner do not find the exams too challenging. Additionally, the absence of a long, multi-question examination system is another advantage for the candidates.

  • The importance of the ITIL certificate in the industry provides a significant hiring advantage during job applications and interviews, and it is also observed to lead to an increase in income.

  • Especially in terms of reducing the time and cost of money during the service development lifecycle process, it offers an advantage. In addition, the quality of the products produced and the service services also show an increase.

  • Businesses with the ITIL certification also see an increase in customer satisfaction levels and employee motivation.

In summary, the ITIL certificate is a service management methodology belonging to the Information Technology Infrastructure Library. Possessing this certificate enhances job opportunities and increases income. Additionally, compared to other certificate programs, it has a longer usability period and does not require renewal. The exam system is also less challenging than other programs. The certificate provides an advantage in job applications and improves the quality of services.
