Database Administrator

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

A hands-on technical expert who can architect, design and deliver highly performant database platforms including OLTP & OLAP systems. Your role will cover database architecture, application design and scale, database performance & reliability.

Database Administrator will be trained as part of their role utilising our products, however it is expected that the applicant will commit to fully understand the existing database platforms at an application level.

Key tasks for the Database Administrator include:

• Understand, own and develop technical architecture, design and implementation of a set of large and complex database platforms and database applications
• Collaborate with your stakeholders and other business analytics team leaders to define, modify or develop the data architecture and data application solution roadmap for the functional areas you support
• Act as a subject matter expert for technical guidance, solution design and best practices within the database environments
• Keep current on database technology trends, evaluate, work on proof-of-concept and make recommendations on the technologies based on their merit, especially in the cloud space.

Solution Development

• Knowledge - Develops knowledge of industry trends and helps improve service to our customers
• Quality Management – Develops quality planning, quality assurance and quality control systems
• Communications Management – Provides progress and performance reporting as requested,
• Trouble shooting - Recognises system deficiencies and implements effective solutions in consultation with others

Experience

• 5+ Years experience in designing, tuning and implementing database technologies such as Oracle, Athena, RDS, DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, SSIS and related products.
• Demonstrated success working with engineering teams implementing and supporting high performance applications
• Working within an agile development environment
• Working with Linux/Unix
• Expert knowledge all features of database Stored Procedures, jobs, Functions and Triggers, optimisation and continuous query turning, especially of Oracle/SQL Server/PostgreSQL systems.
• Experience in database segmentation, sharding, replication, log shipping, assemblies, encryption, security, HA and DR/BCP
• Experience with advanced DB scripting and automation
• Advanced SQL and translating complex business requirements into a logical & algorithmic implementation
• Experience managing multiple DB platforms between production, staging and development, repository systems and database deployment
• Excellent communication skills and able to work directly with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
• Hands on technologist – ready to roll up the sleeves, understand current implementations in detail at an application level and build on it!
• Love to learn new skills and technologies to solve problems for customers and clients
• Curious mind and strong problem-solving skills.

Educational / Additional Qualification:

• Diploma or university degree in computer systems design or computer science or engineering equivalent
• Experience in working with solutions involving enterprise-grade software applications is favourable
• Utility/Electricity Retail experience is favourable
